Climate and Geography
Curacao is located within the southernmost fringe of the hurricane belt, rarely experiencing hurricanes or tropical storms.
Curacao is known for its beautiful weather all-year round, with average temperatures in Curacao hovering around 28°C (76°F). Even in September, the hottest month of the year, the Trade Winds help keep you cool day and night. Luckily, Curacao has plenty of water activities, including kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, and jet skiing, to help you cool off during the warmer months. Also, some of the best scuba diving sites in the world are on Curacao!
Thriving Economy
Perfectly situated between North and South America in the Southern Caribbean, Curacao has a diverse and open economy with a highly skilled and educated workforce. Most locals are multilingual, speaking Dutch, English, Papiamentu (local language on Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao) and Spanish.
Also, the unemployment rate fell last month, showing the strength of the local economy and more job opportunities.
The tourism sector is also booming, including high-end hotel chains such as Hilton, Hyatt, and Marriott opening their doors. From a 2023 survey, Carnival UK cruise ship passengers voted Curacao as their number one destination, enjoying our historic city center and stunning beaches.
Tax Incentives
Curacao offers a variety of tax incentives for business and individuals. For example, a newly incorporated business is eligible for a “tax holiday” if the investment is a minimum of ANG 250,000 (~$140,00 USD). Hotel and similar recreational businesses must reach a higher minimum to qualify. In addition to businesses, the island also grants tax relief to foreign pensioners. If a pensioner meets all the requirements, their worldwide income from foreign sources is taxed at a flat rate of only 10%!
History and Architecture
A mixture of cultures and styles, Curacao is the only island in the Caribbean that’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 1634, the people of the Netherlands created a trading settlement on Curacao, with development continuing over the centuries. The historic area of Willemstad reflects not only European, but also, Spanish, and Portuguese architecture and style.
Bustling Night and Excellent Restaurants
As more buildings in downtown Willemstad are renovated, more restaurants, bars, and shops are opening. Take a stroll down on any street in Pietermaai and Punda on Thursday nights, and you’ll find salsa bands jamming, people dancing, and drinks flowing.
Watch the sunset at the rooftop restaurant Cascade then wander to Mr. Porter for a refreshing cocktail. Across the Queen Emma bridge in Otrobanda, you’ll discover the newly renovated Kura Hulanda, with a cozy and colorful European-like courtyard.
