American citizens do not need permits in Curacao

American citizens are welcome on Curacao. They may stay for up to six consecutive months in Caribbean Netherlands without any permits. When they decide to work or want to stay longer than six months, they need to apply for admission to the country by means of a declaration of right. For this is a VOG statement needed, which is not older than three months. A separate work permit is no longer necessary. Americans can work here and live by the same rules as the Dutch citizens.

This is in accordance with former Minister of Justice, Nelson Navarro.

The measure stems from a lawsuit in St. Maarten. An American citizen successfully appealed to a treaty between the US and the Netherlands in 1955. Americans who already live in Curaçao do not need to apply or renew their paperwork.
